DJ Sazam

DJ Sazam, a beloved realtor and entrepreneur, passed away on October 12, 2025, in Philadelphia, PA. Born on April 17, 1966, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Sazam’s journey through life was one marked by a spirit of adventure, dedication to his work, and a deep love for his family and friends.

Sazam’s career was as diverse as his interests. He worked diligently as a realtor, contributing significantly to his community. In 1994, he opened Sazam Auto Sound on 5th and Clearfield St., a venture that showcased his passion for music and technology. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to expand his horizons further in 2015 when he opened The Fish Tank Guy, just a few doors down from his original establishment. His work left an indelible mark on those who frequented his businesses and the neighborhoods he served.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Sazam was known for his vibrant personality and passions. Loved ones will fondly remember him as a loving, humble, and funny individual who took joy in life’s simple pleasures. In his free time, he embraced the role of DJ, sharing his love for music with friends and family. Sazam cherished spending moments smoking cigars with friends and was often seen enjoying the atmosphere at Izla’s Latin Cuisine on American St.

Sazam was a proud veteran, having entered the U.S. Army in November 1983 and being honorably discharged in November 1993. He carried the values of service and commitment throughout his life, affecting those around him positively.

He is survived by his siblings Aida Cartagena, Jesus Cartagena Zayas, Edwin Cartagena, and Jose Alberto Roman, along with a series of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and colleagues who will deeply miss his warmth and enthusiasm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manolo Berrios and Catalina Zayas Espada, his siblings Nilda Cartagena and Miguel Angel Cartagena, and his nephew, Jose Gonzalez. These losses have left an enduring impact on the family, who will carry forward his memory and legacy.

Visitation services to honor DJ Sazam will be held at Compagnola Funeral Home on 5th St. in Philadelphia. The first visitation will take place on October 24, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on October 25, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery at 12:30 PM.

DJ Sazam's legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, kindness, and passion for life will remain a guiding light for family and friends as they remember the incredible person he was.
