Dorothy Elizabeth Marks

Dorothy Elizabeth Marks, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and devoted wife, passed away on June 20, 2025, at Dear Meadows Nursing Home in Philadelphia, PA. Born on November 23, 1939, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Dorothy lived a life that embodied love, laughter, and humility.

Throughout her years, Dorothy embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and joy, pouring her heart into nurturing her family. She was the proud mother of six children: Johnny, Ruth (nee Hye) Chung, Dorotea Ocasio (Domingo), Elizabeth (nee Ocasio) Cuadrado (Emil), Alesia Ocasio, and Linda (nee Ocasio) Weiss (Mark). Each of them carries forward her legacy of warmth and kindness.

Dorothy was not only a devoted mother but also a beloved grandmother to William, Annette, Melinda, Elisa, Sean, Anthony, Jennifer, Adam, Emil III, Latasha, Tamara, and Nekia. Her family continued to grow, and she cherished her role as a grandmother to 24 great-grandchildren, rejoicing in each new addition. She proudly became a great-great-grandmother to Wesley, a title she held in with much delight, a testament to the unending love she shared with her family.

She was the cherished wife of Mr. Joseph Marks for 44 wonderful years, sharing a love that served as a beacon of hope and support for all who knew them. Dorothy’s loving, funny, and humble personality touched the lives of many and will be profoundly missed.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mr. Otis Hye and the late Mrs. Ruth E. (nee Vanpelt) Hye, and her loving sister, Barbara Hye. Their memories will forever remain with those whose lives they impacted.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the Church of St. William 6200 Rising Sun Ave., in Philadelphia, PA, on Friday June 27, 2025, starting at 8:45 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM, and concluding with a burial at Montefiore Cemetery Co at 12:15 PM. 

As we gather to celebrate Dorothy's life, we reflect on the memories she crafted with love and the legacy of compassion she leaves behind. Her spirit will undoubtedly carry on through the generations she nurtured and cherished.
