Freddy Torres, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 68. Born on June 13, 1956, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Freddy lived a life marked by deep faith, joy, adventure, and an unwavering love for people.
Freddy was a loving father to Johanna Torres, Melissa Torres, and Freddy Torres, and a proud grandfather to Alyssa Roman, Liani Castro-Torres, Lilliana Bearden-Torres, and Alexander Bearden Torres. He is survived by his loving sister, Milagros Torres, and her husband Richard Halpern; his nieces and nephew, Zeeva Halpern, Diana Torres, and Dennis Halpern; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Norma Cortes.
Freddy was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rufina Torres-Gonzalez and Ildefonso Torres, and his dear brother, Dennis Torres.
To know Freddy was to love him. He never met a stranger—only future friends. With a heart full of compassion and a gift for making people laugh, Freddy shared jokes and joy until his final breath. But more than anything, Freddy was a man of unshakable faith. His love for Jesus Christ was evident in every aspect of his life. Wherever he went, Freddy shared the gospel, evangelizing with passion and purpose. He fulfilled the Great Commission with boldness, bringing the message of salvation to countless people and touching hearts with his testimony.
Freddy’s life will be honored during a public viewing on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Compagnola Funeral Home, 4405 N 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140. A burial will follow at 12:30 PM at Magnolia Cemetery, 4500 Levick Street, Philadelphia, PA.
Freddy’s memory will live on in the laughter he sparked, the faith he inspired, and the love he gave so freely.
