Philadelphia

Gloria Cruz, a beloved matriarch and devoted mother, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born on August 22, 1943, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, Gloria’s journey to the United States began in her early twenties as she sought a better life for herself and her family. Her enduring spirit and unwavering dedication shaped the lives of those around her in profound ways.

Throughout her life, Gloria was known for her boundless love and care. She devoted herself tirelessly to her family—cooking, cleaning, and nurturing those she held dear. Her warmth extended beyond her immediate children; she raised one of her grandchildren as if he were her own son, embodying the true essence of family and sacrifice. Gloria’s deep affection for her loved ones was reflected in her daily routines, often filled with the sounds of music and the aromas of home-cooked meals, which were her special gifts to her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to share in her presence.

Gloria is survived by her three daughters, who carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. Her family blossomed under her care to include over forty grandchildren, each touched by her generous heart and nurturing soul.

The community will honor Gloria’s memory with several services held in Philadelphia. A viewing will take place on June 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Compagnola Funeral Home on 5th Street. The following day, June 13, 2026, a second viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Innocents Church, located on E Hunting Park Avenue, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. The burial will then be conducted at Greenmount Cemetery at 12:30 p.m., providing a sacred farewell to a cherished member of the community.

Gloria’s passing leaves a void felt deeply by all who knew her, yet her spirit endures in the family she so lovingly nurtured and the many hearts she touched. As they gather to celebrate her life and legacy, her loved ones remember not only her hard work and dedication but also the joy, music, and care that defined her extraordinary journey.

May Gloria Cruz rest in eternal peace, remembered always with profound respect and everlasting love.
