Luís Alves Soares nasceu em Vila Real, Portugal, em 1 de maio de 1931, filho de Elisiario Soares e Maria das Dores Alves. Serviu no exército Português e em 1957 casou-se com Berta de Conceição Rodrigues. Pouco tempo depois, começou sua carreira como aprendiz de alfaiate, aos 26 anos. Logo tiveram uma filha, Maria de Jesus e 2 anos depois, um filho, Antonio Eduardo. Ele avançou em sua carreira e abriu seu próprio negócio de alfaiataria que rapidamente cresceu e se tornou muito bem sucedido. Devido às exigências estressantes de possuir um negócio, resultando na falta de tempo de qualidade com sua família e outros factores, o levaram a ter uma fome espiritual de encontrar a verdade sobre Deus. Abriram-se oportunidades nos Estados Unidos para alfaiates e ele aceitou uma proposta de contrato para vir trabalhar nos Estados Unidos como alfaiate.
Em Julho de 1970, tomou a ousada decisão de se mudar com sua família para Filadélfia, Pensilvânia dos Estados Unidos, deixando para trás um negócio de sucesso, em busca de um estilo de vida mais pacífico e repousante. Mais tarde, nesse mesmo ano, através do ministério do pastor Otoniel De Almeida e outros ministros, ele foi apresentado o evangelho de Jesus Cristo e aceitou Jesus como seu Salvador pessoal, percebendo que ele não era a boa pessoa que ele pensava ser e que ele tinha encontrado a verdade que ele tão ansiosamente procurava (João 14:6, "Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida. Ninguém vem ao Pai senão por Mim"). Ele levou sua esposa e filhos a essa mesma verdade, e levou muitas famílias ao Senhor, nos Estados Unidos e em Portugal. Ele serviu fielmente ao Senhor como diácono e membro do conselho da igreja. A sua paixão de vida, que viveu até aos últimos dias, era partilhar o amor de Jesus a todos com quem ele contactava. Ele era um homem que orava e amava todas as pessoas. Aqueles que conheceram o Luis vão se lembrar dele como um indivíduo de bom coração que irradiava calor e amor para aqueles ao seu redor. Era um homem amoroso, honesto e fiel, que amava a Deus, a sua esposa e os seus filhos; e deixou um belo exemplo para seguirmos. Ele deixa lembranças para serem acarinhadas por sua família amorosa. Filha: Maria Aguilera; Filho: António Soares; Irmãos: Antonio Soares e Mário Soares; Netos: Michael Aguilera, Jonathan Aguilera, Samuel Soares e Eliana Soares; Bisneta: Siani Elena Aguilera. E também os membros da família ampliada e os muitos amigos que foram impactados pelo seu amor e bondade.

Luis Alves Soares was born in Vila Real Portugal on May 1st, 1931 to Elisiario Soares and Maria das Dores Alves. He served in the Portuguese military and in 1957 he married Berta de Conceição Rodrigues. Shortly thereafter, he began his career as a tailor apprentice at the age of 26. They soon had a daughter, Maria de Jesus, and 2 years later, a son, Antonio Eduardo. He advanced in his career and opened his own tailor business which quickly grew and became very successful. The stressful demands of owning a business resulted in a lack of quality time with his family, and other factors led him to have a spiritual hunger to find the truth about God. Opportunities opened up in the U.S. for tailors, and he accepted a contract offer to come to the USA to work as a tailor.
In July of 1970 he made the bold decision to move with his family to Philadelphia Pennsylvania, USA, leaving behind a successful business, in pursuit of a more peaceful and restful lifestyle. Later on in that same year, through the ministry of Pastor Otoniel De Almeida and other ministers, he was introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ and accepted Jesus as his personal Savior, realizing that he was not the good person he thought he was and he had found the truth he was so earnestly looking for (John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”). He led his wife and children to that same truth, and led many families to the Lord, in the U.S. and Portugal.  He faithfully served the Lord as a deacon and church board member.  His passion in life, which he lived to his dying days, was to share the love of Jesus to everyone he came in contact with. He was a man who prayed for and loved all people. Those who knew Luis will remember him as a kind-hearted individual who radiated warmth and love to those around him. He was a loving, honest and faithful man who loved God, his wife and children; and left a beautiful example for us to follow.
He leaves memories to be cherished by his loving family. Daughter: Maria Aguilera; Son: Antonio Soares; Brothers: Antonio Soares and Mário Soares; Grandchildren: Michael Aguilera, Jonathan Aguilera, Samuel Soares and Eliana Soares; Great Grandchild: Siani Elena Aguilera. And also the extended family members and the many friends that were impacted by his love and kindness.

It is bittersweet that we announce the passing of Luis Alves Soares. In the flesh, we are saddened by the separation but in our spirit we rejoice that he is pain free with the Lord, his Savior.  Luis was a wonderful man, full of joy that all could see by his smile.  He loved his family, and all people, as he often said. He will be deeply missed. He touched the lives of so many.  In lieu of flowers, please send contributions via Venmo: @Antonio-Soares-8 and cards via the address provided. These will be used to offset some of the costs for the funeral and memorial services.  Any excess contributions will be donated to the ministries Luis supported, his local church and various philanthropic organizations around the world.
