It is with deep respect and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Sonia Mercado, who left us on May 23, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, Sonia was a woman who loved life and cherished her family above all else. She was truly the matriarch, a guiding presence whose love and strength held her loved ones together through all seasons.

Sonia’s journey concluded after a life filled with warmth, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. Her affectionate nature and nurturing spirit made her a beloved figure within her community and family. She possessed a remarkable ability to inspire and uplift, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love and resilience.

Viewing services will be held in Philadelphia at the Compagnola Funeral Home on 5th Street, located at 4405-07 North 5th St., on June 4, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A second viewing will take place the following day at St Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, 5450 E Roosevelt Blvd, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. On June 5, 2026, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Martin Of Tours Catholic Church from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Burial services will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, situated at 4500 Levick St., starting at 1:00 p.m. with interment to conclude by 1:30 p.m.
