Once your family has decided to work with our funeral home, we will begin working immediately for you.  The general work flow can be outlined below:

  1. Our staff will collect all vital information so we can begin a case with the Department of Health and register the death.

2.  We will notify the institution as the provider to handle services and ask them to direct all calls to our office regarding your loved ones passing.

3.  The Next of Kin would be required to sign a cremation authorization.  If the cremated remains are to be split into several sets of ashes or shipped to a destination, we will take that direction from the next of kin.

4.  Once the death is registered by the state, we will obtain the cremation permit.  This process varies depending on the county of death.

5.  We will contact the crematory and schedule the cremation.  Once the cremation is scheduled, we will transfer your loved from the institution to the crematory.

6.  When the cremated remains are complete, we will contact family and coordinate how you wish to collect.

Why doesn't your fee include everything?

Every service provided is customized to your family based on your situation.  We are licensed in the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  If your loved one has passed away in a private residence, outside of our local service area, in a county where the coroner is needed to clear the cremation AND you need 7 certified copies of the death certificate, the price will adjust to accommodate for those variables when compared to passing away at a local hospital in a county without approval from the medical examiner.   Our funeral service providers love what they do and will gladly answer any questions during your consultation,

**Our price does not include merchandise, cash advances or long distance transfers.  Cash Advance item are goods or services that a funeral provider must purchase from a third party vendor on behalf of the families we serve.   Cash Advance examples are as follows:  Cemetery charges, Crematory charges, Clergy Donations, Certified Death Certificates, Out of County Coroner Permit etc.   According to PA law, human remains held 24 hours beyond death shall be embalmed or sealed in a container that will not allow fumes or odors to escape or kept under refrigeration, if this does not conflict with a religious belief or medical examination.   Because of this law, extra charges will apply to a death that occurred in a hospice, nursing home or private residence to cover the initial first call and subsequent embalming of remains.  Compagnola Funeral Home does not have refrigeration**
